A magyar mezőgazdaság finanszírozásának főbb elemei a pénzügyi válságban AgEcon
Kemeny, Gabor.
Míg a jellemzően külföldi tulajdonosi körrel rendelkező hazai bankok közvetlen ügyfélkörüket (bár szigorúbb feltételekkel) hajlandóak voltak folyamatosan finanszírozni (sok esetben a kieső...

Assessing the Role of Microfinance in Fostering Adaptation to Climate Change AgEcon
Agrawala, Shardul; Carraro, Maelis.
Much of the current policy debate on adaptation to climate change has focussed on estimation of adaptation costs, ways to raise and to scale-up funding for adaptation, and the design of the international institutional architecture for adaptation financing. There is however little or no emphasis so far on actual delivery mechanisms to channel these resources at the sub-national level, particularly to target the poor who are also often the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. It is in this context that microfinance merits a closer look. This paper offers the first empirical assessment of the linkages between microfinance supported activities and adaptation to climate change. Specifically, the lending portfolios of the 22 leading microfinance...

Credit Rationing of North Dakota Agribusiness AgEcon
Gustafson, Cole R.; Anderson, Sara J..
Results from a stratified, random, cross-sectional mail survey of 272 North Dakota agribusinesses found limited evidence of external credit rationing. Only 8 percent of the firms would be willing to pay a premium for additional financing. Consequently, credit rationing that did exist was internal. The study also provided information on the financial characteristics of agribusiness firms operating in the input, output and service sectors.

DESARROLLANDO ESQUEMAS DE FINANCIAMIENTO PARA EL SECTOR AGRÍCOLA TECNIFICADO Y DE ALTO VALOR AGREGADO AgEcon
Villarreal Gonzalez, Amado; Celaya Figueroa, Roberto.
The importance of the horticultural sector in generating employment, the spread of economic and financial resources in the use of supplies and generating foreign income, are undeniable aspects of the kindnesses that has brought the development of this sector. Nevertheless, the feel of the producers, especially the small and medium, is that the access to financing is very limited. Carrying out a work of investigation between the actors of the supply and demand of credit, and analyzing the plans of successful financing in other sectors, the present work designs a more favorable plan of financing where the Horticulture can have access to opportune and sufficient financing through the organization of producers, the constitution of sufficient guarantees and the...

Financial risks and factors affecting them on Finnish farms AgEcon
Pyykkonen, Perttu; Yrjola, Tapani; Latukka, Arto.
As a consequence of rapid structural change and new investment support scheme agricultural debts have increased and concentrated heavily in Finland. In addition, New Basel Accord (Basel II) regulating the bank business requires more in-depth credit risk assessment from banks. Therefore, there are both endogenous and exogenous reasoning for researching the agricultural credit risks. The purpose of the study is to find out the factors that affect financial risks in agriculture as well as possible change in credit risks. Credit scores depicting the magnitude of financial risk for 664 Finnish FADN farms are calculated and an econometric model is applied to clarify which farm specific factors influence the credit score. According to the study increasing farm...

Financing agricultural inputs in Northern Togo through an inventory credit system: an economic analysis of institutional response AgEcon
Konlambigue, Abdou.
Agricultural intensification is widely seen as a condition sine-qua-non for enhanced food security and as a major driver for overall economic growth in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). In this process, the financial system has an important role to play, especially to finance agricultural inputs. However in SSA, the financial institutions initiated by governments and donors have in general not lived up to the expectations, in particular not for the agricultural sector, because of inappropriate design and weaknesses in implementation. Even the microfinance institutions which were supposed to support the small-scale farmers have deflected for their goals due to the risks that the agricultural sector represents. To date, the economic research tends to concentrate on...

Financing irrigation services: a literature review and selected case studies from Asia AgEcon
Small, Leslie E.; Adriano, Marietta S.; Martin, Edward D.; Bhatia, Ramesh; Shim, Young K.; Pradhan, Prachanda.
This study results from a two years' intensive research into a hitherto unexplored area of irrigation management - the aspect of financing irrigation in some Asian countries. The authors have analyzed the relationship between investment costs, level of irrigation fees, cropping intensity, type of crop, and secondary income. The studies conclude that the quality of irrigation system operations and maintenance is affected not only by the amount of resources made available to operate and maintain systems, but also by the institutional arrangements under which they are provided.

Guam Fish Aggregating Device programme ArchiMer
Torres, A.
Installation and maintenance of FADs by the Government of Guam began in 1979, initially with funding from the Salstonstall-Kennedy Act through the Pacific Tuna Development Foundation. Current funding for the Guam FAD project is provided through the Dingell-Johnson/Wallop-Breaux Sport Fish Restoration programme, a Federal Aid Project funded by taxes collected on the purchase of fishing equipment and motorboat fuels nationwide. There are now sixteen operational FAD sites in Guam's waters. At a cost of approximately US$10,000 per system, concern for the rising costs of replacing and maintaining FAD systems has prompted the Department of Agriculture's Division of Aquatic and Wildlife Resources (DAWR) to investigate alternative FAD maintenance strategies and...
